Police Arrest Several Criminals in Operation

    By Kenneth Wamatoyi In an operation carried out on January 29, 2025, at 9:00 PM, a targeted operation was conducted in the Kireka Railway Zone area, based on intelligence gathered about specific small bars and a video hall along the railway line. These establishments were suspected of facilitating the sale and smoking of opium, allegedly linked to criminal activities and the terrorization of the Namugongo and Bweyogere divisions.     SSP Patrick Onyango stated that the operation involved a collaborative effort between uniformed police officers, the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), and local leaders. The successful operation resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects and the recovery of opium. Busoga University to reopen in August.

  JINJA. Busoga University will reopen in August. This was revealed by the Ministry of Education’s assistant commissioner in charge of university education and training, John Ochira. In December 2016, the National Council for Higher Education-NCHE revoked the provisional license of Busoga University, which has been in operation since 1998 on several grounds.  The university was operating under the control of Busoga Diocese at the time of closure. NCHE accused the University of awarding fake degrees, which prompted it to cancel more than 1,000 degrees awarded to students, recruiting unqualified academic staff and accumulating debts among others contrary to the Universities and Other Tertiary Intuitions Act. At the time of the closure, the university was highly indebted and lacked funds to sustain the daily operational costs of the institution. LC5 Chairman Moses Batwala Expresses Gratitude to President for Visiting PDM Assessment in Busoga Region.

He highlighted how Mr. Kazibwe, who manages a farm on 4 acres of land, demonstrated his work and how many people he employs, creating a positive impact on the community. Batwala made these remarks while speaking with Dinka Nation website at his office. Batwala encouraged leaders to implement initiatives that will serve as examples, enabling the successful spread of the PDM message throughout the community. He further emphasized that while politics is important, development should also be a priority.
