In an operation carried out on January 29, 2025, at 9:00 PM, a targeted operation was conducted in the Kireka Railway Zone area, based on intelligence gathered about specific small bars and a video hall along the railway line. These establishments were suspected of facilitating the sale and smoking of opium, allegedly linked to criminal activities and the terrorization of the Namugongo and Bweyogere divisions.

SSP Patrick Onyango stated that the operation involved a collaborative effort between uniformed police officers, the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), and local leaders. The successful operation resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects and the recovery of opium. The suspects were charged with possession of narcotics and are currently being held pending court proceedings.

The exhibits recovered during the operation were also presented as evidence. This targeted operation marks the beginning of sustained efforts to curb the sale and smoking of opium along the Kireka railway line, with the ultimate goal of reducing crime in the area.

Earlier, police in Nasana conducted an intelligence-led operation in Kyebando village, targeting a notorious panga-wielding gang that has been terrorizing Kampala and its surroundings. The operation was prompted by information from a reliable source, leading to the arrest of Kakeeto Imran. During interrogation, Kakeeto revealed the identities of other gang members, which led to the arrest of five others: Manaishimwe Emable (23), Nyweza Aaron (20), Muyingo Mike (24), Agaba Godfrey (18), all boda boda riders, and Kakeeto Imran (17), a chapati maker, along with Mutebi John (17). All the arrested individuals are residents of Kyebando Kabulengwa.

The Uganda Police Force in Kampala has conducted several operations to target criminal activity, including narcotics trafficking, robbery, and other crimes.
