In a surprising turn of events, Hon. Mariam Naigaga the Woman MP has lost the National
Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson seat for Namutumba District to Simon
Menya, who won by a wide margin. Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM
Electoral Commission, confirmed that the elections in Namutumba District were
conducted smoothly and declared Simon Menya the duly elected NRM District
Chairperson.
Dr. Odoi clarified that only two positions—Vice Chairperson and Secretary for
Publicity—will be contested on Tuesday, July 27, 2025, at Busoga Nsadhu. All
other positions were filled through proper electoral procedures. This
clarification was echoed by the Namutumba District Returning Officer, Magobi
Bovani William, during a press briefing at the NRM offices.
Bovani noted that Dr. Tanga Odoi had directed him to oversee the election of
only the two remaining positions. Simon Menya secured the chairmanship with 480
votes.
In other results, Hon. Minister Princess Persis Namuganza was elected Secretary
for Finance, while Nakisita Betty took the position of General Secretary.
Minister Namuganza, who also serves as the MP for Bukono Constituency, thanked
the voters for their overwhelming support and reaffirmed her commitment to the
NRM, which she described as a mass party representing all Ugandans.
Simon Menya, now the newly elected NRM Chairperson for Namutumba District,
expressed gratitude to his supporters and pledged to serve the party with
dedication and transparency.
However other positions like the Vice chairperson and secretary publicity were not voted waiting for official dates that will be announced.
