SHOCK DEFEAT: Hon. Mariam Naigaga Loses NRM Chairpersonship in Namutumba District.

In a surprising turn of events, Hon. Mariam Naigaga the Woman MP  has lost the National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson seat for Namutumba District to Simon Menya, who won by a wide margin. Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, confirmed that the elections in Namutumba District were conducted smoothly and declared Simon Menya the duly elected NRM District Chairperson.


Dr. Odoi clarified that only two positions—Vice Chairperson and Secretary for Publicity—will be contested on Tuesday, July 27, 2025, at Busoga Nsadhu. All other positions were filled through proper electoral procedures. This clarification was echoed by the Namutumba District Returning Officer, Magobi Bovani William, during a press briefing at the NRM offices.


Bovani noted that Dr. Tanga Odoi had directed him to oversee the election of only the two remaining positions. Simon Menya secured the chairmanship with 480 votes.
In other results, Hon. Minister Princess Persis Namuganza was elected Secretary for Finance, while Nakisita Betty took the position of General Secretary. Minister Namuganza, who also serves as the MP for Bukono Constituency, thanked the voters for their overwhelming support and reaffirmed her commitment to the NRM, which she described as a mass party representing all Ugandans.


Simon Menya, now the newly elected NRM Chairperson for Namutumba District, expressed gratitude to his supporters and pledged to serve the party with dedication and transparency.

However other positions like the Vice chairperson and secretary publicity were not voted waiting for official dates that will be announced.
