Police Rescue Suspect from Angry Mob

By Kenneth wamatoyi  "BUKEDI NORTH - BUTEBO:  Police in Butebo district have rescued a suspect, Ephraim Onywa, from an angry mob and are investigating cases of cattle theft and attempted murder. According to Ag. PRO Bukedi North, SP Semewo Samuel, the incident began with a report of stolen cattle from Takwana Village in Butebo district. During the investigation, police deployed canine services, which tracked the scent to Onywa's house, where the dog entered and sat on his bed. This led to community outrage, with some attempting to kill Onywa and setting his hut ablaze. Police intervened and rescued Onywa, who is now in custody at Butebo CPS as a suspect. Semewo stated that the attempted murder case is being investigated under CRB:025/2024, with case files opened and statements recorded. Bulambuli Police Hunt for Driver in Fatal Accident

  By Kenneth wamatoyi.  Police in Bulambuli are searching for the driver of a Sino truck (reg. no. UBF 097R) that knocked down and killed a UPDF officer riding a motorcycle (reg. no. UFS 397J Bajaji Boxer). Two other UPDF officers sustained severe injuries and are receiving treatment at Mbale Referral Hospital.   The accident occurred at Buhokosi Village, Bunambutye Sub County, Bulambuli District, at around 11:30 am. The Sino truck, driven by Mayega John, was attempting to branch off onto a feeder road when the motorcycle rider, trying to overtake on the driver's side, lost control and collided with the truck.  The civilian rider sustained injuries   as Tumuhaise Phiona, a UPDF personnel attached to Chespikunya Brigade, died in the accident on spot.   According to Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, SP Rodgers Taitika, the victims included Adyero John Richard and Ajokait Bosco, both UPDF personnel attached to Chespikunya Brigade, and an unidentified...

State House Anti-Corruption Unit and RDC Secretariat Heads Grill Manafwa District Health Officer Over Drug Looting

BY OUR REPORTER  Major Martha Asiimwe, Head of the RDC Secretariat, and other officials from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, confronted the District Health Officer of Manafwa district on Thursday over the persistent looting of drugs from government health facilities. The meeting, held at the district headquarters, aimed to address the long-standing issue of drug theft, particularly at Bugobero Health Center IV. Major Asiimwe expressed concern that despite the problem being longstanding, no significant action had been taken. "There's theft of drugs, and to be specific, this theft has been going on in your health units," she said. "You've been transferring the problem, covering it up, but now it can't be hidden, and we demand accountability." Asiimwe revealed that the circle of thieves is large and systematic, instructing that the entire chain be dismantled. MBALE CITY: BCU’s New 5-Star Hotel, Musundi House Nears Completion

Nathan Mabonga, the Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) Board Treasurer, has announced that the work will be completed by the end of September 2024.   He stated that it will be the most beautiful hotel in the heart of town named after the pioneer chairman of Bugisu Cooperative Union, Enoch Musundi.   Barbra Wasagali the BCU General Manager says other achievements of the union this year, include; selling 30% of the coffee stock both locally and internationally, fulfilling the board’s primary responsibility of securing markets for coffee.   He adds that surveying 92% of BCU lands and societies, and acquiring a vehicle to ease transportation, with plans to purchase additional ones as coffee sales continue. ⁠   BCU is also sponsoring 301 students for higher education at various institutions and will be launching the coffee season, with cash purchases at the fac...

Namisindwa official interdicted for returning Shs1.1b to consolidated fund.

By Kenneth Wamatoyi The office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in Namisindwa district has suspended Irene Nambuya, the district salaries officer, for causing the return of over Shs 1.1 billion to the national treasury for the last financial year (2023/24). According to Mr. Leonard Kitavujja chief administrative officer , he confirmed the allegations saying that he issued out the letter to Irene when she had just arrived at her office in the morning for interdicting the money back to the treasurer for the financial year 2023/24. He says he had confirmed the payments to the contractors. The funds were intended to pay contractors who had successfully completed construction works at various schools, including Namboko Seed School in the district. The suspension follows a news story broadcast on a local radio station in Mbale about the complaints of contractors who were not paid despite submitting their completion certificates. Namisindwa mother died during delivery over neglect of health workers

The deceased is identified as Lonah Nekesa 40 years of age a resident of Mission cell, Mission ward Magale town council in Namisindwa district. Police Hunt for Grader Driver After Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident in Buikwe District

On August 29, 2024, at 11:30 am, traffic police in Buikwe District reported a fatal accident at Lugalambo Tea Plantation along the Kampala-Jinja Highway. The accident involved a Caterpillar grader (UBM 611U) and a Honda motorcycle (UEP 551K). According to Sezibwa Region Police Spokesperson, SP Hellen Butoto confirmed the incident saying the unidentified grader driver was exiting a feeder road onto the Kampala-Jinja Highway when they collided with the motorcycle, ridden by Sulaiman Muwawu, who was traveling from Kampala to Jinja. The impact knocked off the front tire of the grader, resulting in Muwawu's instant death. The deceased, identified as 40-year-old Sulaiman Muwawu, a resident of Seeta, Mukono, was riding motorcycle UEP 551K. The driver of the grader remains at large as investigations continue.
