"BUKEDI NORTH - BUTEBO:
Police in Butebo district have rescued a suspect, Ephraim Onywa, from an angry mob and are investigating cases of cattle theft and attempted murder. According to Ag. PRO Bukedi North, SP Semewo Samuel, the incident began with a report of stolen cattle from Takwana Village in Butebo district.
During the investigation, police deployed canine services, which tracked the scent to Onywa's house, where the dog entered and sat on his bed. This led to community outrage, with some attempting to kill Onywa and setting his hut ablaze.
Police intervened and rescued Onywa, who is now in custody at Butebo CPS as a suspect. Semewo stated that the attempted murder case is being investigated under CRB:025/2024, with case files opened and statements recorded. However, no exhibits have been recovered from Onywa's house as police continue to make inquiries.
Onywa, a resident of Takwana Village, Takwana Parish, Kakoro Subcounty, is being held in connection with the cattle theft and attempted murder cases."
