Bugiri Chief Magistrate's Court Sees Arraignment of Six Individuals on Corruption Charges

On September 9, 2024, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and Criminal Investigations Department presented six defendants before the Chief Magistrate's Court in Bugiri. 


The accused, comprising local government officials and PDM SACCO leaders, face charges of Obtaining Money by False Pretense and Conspiracy to Defraud.

The defendants are  Mugunda Azedy, Assistant Town Clerk and Community Development Officer, Busowa Town Council, Maka Christopher, Parish Chief, Buwanga Sub County, Busowa Parish ,  Kawudhu Mathias, Chairperson, Nawandhuki Busowa SACCa ,  Balidawa Stephen, Chairperson, Nakidudula Busowa SACCO,  Makiika Stephen, Chairperson, Nakawa Busowa SACCO, Waiswa Hassan, Businessman

The court remanded the accused until September 23, 2024.


According to the prosecution, the defendants, along with others still at large, conspired to defraud millions of shillings from PDM SACCO beneficiaries in Bugiri District between January and June 2024. 

They allegedly collected money under false pretenses, claiming it was for legitimate PDM activities such as renting space, buying furniture, and printing vouchers. However, these activities were not actual, and the defendants also charged fees to beneficiaries, violating PDM guidelines.

SHOCK DEFEAT: Hon. Mariam Naigaga Loses NRM Chairpersonship in Namutumba District.

Mariam Naigaga the Woman MP  has lost the National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson seat for Namutumba District to Simon Menya, who won by a wide margin. Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, confirmed that the elections in Namutumba District were conducted smoothly and declared Simon Menya the duly elected NRM District Chairperson. Dr. Odoi clarified that only two positions—Vice Chairperson and Secretary for Publicity—will be contested on Tuesday, July 27, 2025, at Busoga Nsadhu. Jinja District Unveils 47.67 Billion Shilling Budget for 2025/26

By Kenneth Wamatoyi Jinja District Council has unveiled a proposed budget of 47.67 billion shillings for the financial year 2025/26, focusing on wages, infrastructure, and essential services. The budget, presented on March 25, 2025, at Jinja District Hall, is now under review by various district committees before final approval. The budget allocates 29.15 billion shillings (61.1%) to wages, 15.48 billion shillings (32.5%) for non-wage recurrent expenditures, and 3.04 billion shillings (6.4%) for capital development projects. Speaker Namukose Monica stated that councillors have been given time to review the budget and suggest amendments.
