The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) electoral commission in Jinja City has nominated several candidates to contest for various positions ahead of the party primaries.



Bernard Mbayo, who currently serves as Speaker of Jinja City Council, has officially been nominated to contest for the Member of Parliament seat representing Jinja South West Constituency. His nomination took place on the evening of Tuesday, 18th June 2025, at the FDC offices located at Kama Oil, Milo Bridge in Jinja City.



Mbayo expressed confidence in his candidacy, stating that he is ready to face any contender from other political parties and believes he is the most suitable candidate to represent the people of Jinja South West in Parliament. He called upon the community to support him in the upcoming general elections.



Meanwhile, Nabukwasi Enid Petra Kauthara was nominated on the FDC ticket to contest for the Jinja City Woman MP position. She called upon voters across Jinja City to support her bid, promising effective service delivery and responsible representation.



Nabukwasi, widely known for her advocacy for community empowerment and social justice, thanked the party leadership for the trust placed in her. In her address, she emphasized her commitment to serving the people of Jinja City with integrity, transparency, and dedication.



She pledged to prioritize issues affecting women, youth, and marginalized communities, promising to be a strong voice for development and accountability in Parliament. She also urged residents to rally behind her candidacy, assuring them of inclusive and transformative leadership under the FDC banner.



In addition, Ssempebwa Godfrey was nominated to contest for the Jinja North MP seat. Speaking to the media after his nomination, he pledged effective representation and vowed to champion the interests of his constituents.



Speaking to reporters, Lugada Joseph, the Chairperson of the FDC Electoral Commission in Jinja City, revealed that 17 candidates had been nominated for various posts. He explained that the nomination process had been delayed due to unavoidable circumstances, but was now proceeding smoothly.



“We have received several aspirants from different levels. The process has been peaceful, and we are grateful that no cases of violence have been reported. We thank the candidates and their supporters for their commitment,” Lugada said.




Nsada Simon Muwesi, who was nominated for the Jinja City Mayoral seat, expressed readiness to transform Jinja City, citing his leadership experience and vision for the city's development.




The Vice Chairperson of FDC in Jinja City, Nekesa Annet, commended the party for upholding democratic principles and maintaining peace during the nomination exercise. She said the nomination forms will be submitted to the party’s head office in Kampala, and candidates will proceed through the party primaries to select flag bearers for the upcoming general elections.
