Bernard Mbayo , who currently serves as Speaker of Jinja City Council , has officially been nominated to contest for the Member of Parliament seat representing Jinja South West Constituency . Election Security on High Alert as Kiira Regional Police Command Implements Comprehensive Measures.

The meeting, chaired by Jinja City Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Mr. Richard Gulume , focused on strategic security planning for all three phases of election policing : before, during, and after the polls . Mr. Gulume commended the joint security efforts during the NRM grassroots elections and warned political candidates against forming militia groups, such as the so-called Gaali , which he said pose a threat to public safety and national security . Three Die, Several Injured in Fatal Accident in Njeru, Buikwe District

The accident involved the following motor vehicles: UBR 565W  – Toyota Hiace, driver unknown UBA 061K  – Toyota Hiace, driver unknown UAX 241S  – Mitsubishi Fuso truck, driver unknown According to reports, both Toyota Hiace vehicles (UBR 565W and UBA 061K) were traveling from the Jinja direction towards Kampala. Upon reaching Njeru Village near Bavima Steel Factory, vehicle UBR 565W reportedly swerved out of its lane to avoid a pothole, subsequently hitting vehicle UBA 061K from the rear. It then lost control and collided head-on with the oncoming Mitsubishi Fuso (UAX 241S), causing the Hiace to overturn. According to police reports, on the night of June 8, 2025 , at approximately 11:30 PM , Police received intelligence information from a whistleblower—who requested anonymity—about suspected vandalism of a UEDCL power line in the area. A joint security operation was immediately launched by the Police and the UPDF, led by Lt. Charles Ssempijja . Police Dog Unit Aids in Curbing Livestock Theft in Kamuli.

(File  Photo) By Kenneth Wamatoyi.  Following the nationwide deployment of police dogs across all regions in Uganda, the Busoga North Regional Police has reported notable progress in tackling livestock theft. Between January and May 2025, Kamuli Police Station recorded 38 cases of cattle theft, resulting in the arrest of 28 suspects, 24 of whom were subsequently taken to court. According to ASP Micheal Kasadha, the regional police spokesperson, the police canine unit has played a vital role in investigations related to livestock theft and similar crimes. "We have widely relied on our sniffer dog to track and detect the scent of suspects," Kasadha stated. He emphasized that the dog has been instrumental in tracking suspects, detecting scents, locating stolen animals, apprehending criminals, and gathering evidence. Police Probe Dormitory Fire That Killed 12-Year-Old Pupil in Kamuli

By Kenneth Wamatoyi.  The territorial police in Kamuli District are investigating the cause of a fire that claimed the life of a 12-year-old pupil and destroyed property at Balawoli Primary School. The tragic incident occurred on the night of Sunday, May 25, 2025, at around 11:00 p.m., when a fire broke out in the boys’ dormitory at the school located in Balawoli Town Council, Kamuli District. The blaze reduced pupils’ belongings, including mattresses and scholastic materials, to ashes. The deceased has been identified as Famba Bernard, a Primary Five pupil and son of the school matron. According to eyewitness accounts, the fire rapidly engulfed the dormitory, making it impossible for the child to escape. His two siblings attempted to alert the school matron, who was at the girls’ wing approximately 70 meters away, but by then, Bernard had already been trapped inside as the flames intensified.
